The Masons of the State of Connecticut offer the Connecticut CHIld Protection (CHIP) Program as a free community service, and part of its Masonikids program. At each CHIP event, the Masons operate a booth where parents can bring their children to have a package assembled consisting of a digital photo, videotape, DNA sample, fingerprints, measurements, and other vital statistics about their child. A dentist is on hand to make dental impressions. None of the identification materials are retained by the Masons or any other organization; they are all given to the parents for their own private safekeeping, and can prove invaluable to police or other investigators if needed in the event that a child is lost or abducted. Kayla interviews a youngster for his parents’ videotape at the Portland Fair. Seeing and hearing a child on video can be more helpful than still photographs to locate a missing child, and the backdrop shows the child’s height.
